Toronto Croatia forward Tihomir Maletic led his team with a hat-trick to a 4-1 victory over St. Catharines Wolves. Toronto Croatia had already secured a playoff berth before the game with St. Catharines Wolves, but the win puts the Mississauga-based team in a favoured top four spot – the top four of eight teams to play for the CSL Championship. The Toronto Croatia vs. St. Catharines Wolves game produced an excellent first half of soccer with an opening goal by St. Catharines midfielder Matthew Cain at 16 minutes. The prolific Tihomir Maletic equalized for Toronto Croatia at 46 minutes and he struck his second at the 59th minute mark for a 2-1 Toronto Croatia lead. Maletic scored his ninth of the season for a hat-trick, a free kick at 63 minutes, and midfielder Jonathan Busamante scored a fourth Croatia goal at the 75th minute mark for a 4-1 final score. St. Catharines Wolves lost defender Jeff Attard at 71 minutes after he was shown a second yellow card. Toronto Croatia have a 10-1-4 WLT record for 34 points as a result of the win, while St. Catharines Wolves remain at 16 points from a 3-5-7 record.

Portugal FC midfielder Jarvin Skeete put an end to Toronto Croatia’s unbeaten streak of 12 games with a first half goal at Centennial Stadium, a surprise but deserving 1-0 victory for the visiting team in the only game played in the CSL Sunday night. Skeete struck at the 39th minute mark when he took the ball in to pass two defenders and beat Croatia goalkeeper Marko Culjak from close range to give Portugal the 1-0 lead at half-time. Toronto Croatia pressed for an equalizer in the second half with close calls from Tihomir Maletic and Ainsley Deer, but strong goalkeeping by Mike Silva and impressive defending by player-coach Danny Amaral who prefers a more attacking role, preserved the score through to the final whistle. Amaral also played a big part in Portugal FC’s 2-2 tie with Toronto Croatia at Brockton Stadium on July 12 when he played a two way defending and attacking game and scored the tying goal in added time. The win boosted Portugal FC’s bid for a playoff spot, lifting the team to 16 points with a 3-4-7 WLT record, while Toronto Croatia have already clinched a playoff berth and are now seeking a home draw from a favoured position at the top of the standings. Toronto Croatia stretched its winning streak to six games with a 1-0 defeat of Brampton Lions on Sunday. Forward Tihomir Maletic scored the winning goal at the 62nd minute for Toronto Croatia following an evenly played but chippy game that resulted in three players being ejected at Victoria Park in Brampton. The Toronto Croatia forward met a perfect cross to head the ball past Brampton goalkeeper Kevin Doyle for the only goal of the game, but a vital one that kept Croatia unbeaten so far this season and a winning run going back to early June. Brampton midfielder Alex Arbello was the first to be ejected for serious foul play and was followed to the dressing room by midfielder Daniel Nascimento who was shown the red card for violent conduct. Toronto Croatia defender Tomislav Skara was ordered off the field after receiving a second yellow card. It’s clubs like Clarkson Sheridan that have made Peel-Halton one of the finest soccer regions in Canada. And that's why the CSL's Toronto Croatia have opted to partner with the Mississauga youth soccer organization, all of which was announced at a press conference on Tuesday. Formed in 1971, the Clarkson Sheridan Soccer Club is situated in southwestern Mississauga and that’s not far from picturesque Streetsville and the headquarters of Toronto Croatia which, for more than 50 years has symbolized a strong, mature second level Canadian professional soccer that has represented its country of origin and its community over those many years. The team won the North American championship as Metros Croatia in 1976 after attracting Portuguese superstar Eusebio and just three years ago, Toronto Croatia traveled to Europe to win an inaugural tournament for Croatian teams from Austria, Germany, Australia, the U.S. and France. Clarkson Sheridan and Toronto Croatia have struck a partnership that will bring together the largely developmental Clarkson Sheridan with 20 competitive teams and 2300 youth players from ages 4 to 14 and the seasoned professionals that can teach that little bit extra to those players showing promise and who aspire to be pros or play for Canada some day. Clarkson Sheridan has, in recent times, expanded its basic coaching to include fitness training and synchronized training plans. The club is looking to overseas visits to provide experience and late last year sent its OYSL boys team to South America and the local coaches noted six players for future consideration. Toronto Croatia won the CSL Championship in 2007 and are unbeaten so far this season to lead the International Division. While the partnership between Clarkson Sheridan and Toronto Croatia will benefit both clubs, Canadian soccer is bound to be the ultimate beneficiary. © CSL

Two goals by Toronto Croatia midfielder Mario Pupic(above)gave his side a 2-1 victory over Italia Shooters at Centennial Stadium Sunday night. Italia Shooters opened the scoring in the late game at Centennial Stadium, a goal by forward Kadian Lecky at 33 minutes for 1-0 lead at the interval. Croatia’s Hugo Herrera was shown the red card at 57 minutes for violent conduct, but the 10-man home side equalized on a penalty kick at the 65th minute mark. The penalty was awarded when Hayden Fitzwilliams of Toronto Croatia was tripped in the penalty box and Mario Pupic made no mistake in finding the net. Pupic scored his second and the winner when he tapped in a cross from the right win to beat Italia’s goalkeeper Camilo Benzi just two yards out. The goal came at the 81st minute mark for a 2-1 final score. Toronto Croatia maintain an unbeaten record of 4-0-1 WLT for 13 points, five points ahead of second place Portugal FC in the International Division, while Italia Shooters have a 2-3-0 record for six points. © CSL
